[00:00] In this lesson, we'll connect to an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix device using the Legacy driver. To add a new device connection, I'll open my Gateway webpage, head to the connection section, expand devices, and then click Connections. Next, I'll click Create Device Connection. Then I'll need to choose the driver I want to use. My PLC is a ControlLogix device with a firmware below version 20.18, so I'll need to select the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix (Legacy) driver. If your Logix device is on a firmware version above version 21, then you would choose the Logix driver instead. Once I have the correct driver selected, I'll click next. I'll need to give this connection a name. I'll call this LegacyControlLogix. Next, I'll need to provide the host name or IP address of my device. I have enough information to create the connection, but I'll quickly mention a couple other properties you might wanna know about. If I wanted to connect to the device from a specific network card, I can specify the address in the local address field, but I'll just leave this blank, which lets the driver pick an available address automatically.

[01:09] When connecting to an Allen-Bradley processor through a ControlLogix gateway, a connection path is required. I'm connecting directly to mine, so it's not needed. But if you want more information on Allen-Bradley Connection Paths, see the link to our user manual. Below the video in the resources section, I'll also include a link to the ControlLogix Legacy driver page to reference these properties in the advanced section. There's also this slot number property. This is the zero based ControlLogix chassis slot number of the processor to connect to. In my case, it's slot zero, so I'll leave the default value of zero. Since I'm finished, I'll click Create Device Connection. The device will connect, initiate a browse, and then continue in run mode. If I head over to my designer, I can browse my devices from the tag browser, find my brand new device connection, and see my tags.
