[00:00] In this lesson, we'll connect to an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix device using the Legacy driver. To add a new device connection, I'll navigate to the config section of the Gateway webpage. I'll scroll down to OPC UA and then click Device Connections. Next, I'll click Create New Device. Then I'll need to choose the driver I want to use. My PLC is a ControlLogix device with a firmware below version 20.18. So I'll need to select the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Legacy driver. If your Logix device is on a firmware version above version 21, then you would choose the Logix Driver instead. Once I have the correct driver selected, I'll click next. I'll need to give my connection a name, so I'll call this Legacy ControlLogix. Next, I'll need to provide the host name or IP address of my device. Then if I wanted to connect to the device from a specific network card, I can specify the address in the Local Address field, but I'll just leave this blank, which lets the driver pick an available address automatically.

[01:06] The slot number value is the zero based ControlLogix chassis slot number of the processor to connect to. In my case, it's slot zero, so I'll leave the default value of zero. Another property I'll mention here is the connection path. When connecting to an Allen-Bradley processor through a ControlLogix gateway, a connection path is required. I'm connecting directly to mine, so it's not needed. But if you want more information on Allen-Bradley Connection Paths, see the link to our user manual below the video in the resources section. I'll also include a link to the ControlLogix legacy driver page to reference these properties. Since I'm finished, I'll click create. The device will connect, initiate a browse, and then continue in run mode. If I head over to my OPC quick client, I can expand my OPC server, find my brand new device connection, and view my tags.
