(open in window)[00:00] In this lesson, we will learn how to download and use the designer launcher, which gives us access to all our designer spaces in one application. The easiest way to download the launcher is in the welcome page of the gateway. As soon as you log in, you can look for this download section, which is where you'll find Ignition applications, and we can click on this designer launcher option. Since I'm on a Windows device, the gateway is prompting me to download that version, so I'll click on this button, but there are also downloads available for both Mac and Linux. Let's go ahead and run the installation wizard, and I'll go ahead and install this just for my user. First, we can set the location for our designer and I'll leave it set as the default folder and click on Next. We have some additional options like creating a desktop shortcut, and I'll leave these checked and click on Next again. Finally, we can click on the install button and we'll let that run for a bit. And once it's done, let's leave this option to launch it and then click on finish.
[01:06] We'll give it a second, and once it opens, we see right away a message saying There are no designers configured, and we can add a new one by clicking on this button. Next, we need to associate our designer to a gateway, and we can select one that exists within our network from this list, or we can manually specify one in this tab. I'm just going to select this local host one from my network and click the add designer button. And just like that, we have a designer space for our local gateway and we can begin creating projects for it. This also comes with some additional quality of life options by clicking on the three dots here, and you can choose things like managing some of the designer's settings, navigating to its gateway, adding them to the favorites tab and sending it to various locations. What's great about the launcher is that it allows us to add in multiple designers, so if you're creating projects in multiple gateways, then you can easily access them from one application. It also comes with some configuration options by clicking on the gear settings button.
[02:07] Two of them in particular are really interesting. The default designer property allows you to select a designer that you want to launch when you first open the designer launcher. The launcher will then go ahead and open that designer automatically without you having to click on the launch button. The other property auto exit on launch will automatically close the designer launcher whenever you launch a designer. Finally, on the bottom you have the ability to export or import launcher configurations. Let's close out of this and actually open up this designer. All you need to do is select it and click the open designer button. We're going to be prompted for a username and password, and this is to authenticate against the identity provider configured for gateway authentication. I'll go ahead and log in with my admin user and then we'll be given a list of projects on this gateway to open in the designer. I already have this one named test, but if you want to add a new project, you could do so by clicking on this button in the top left.
[03:04] I'll go ahead and open my project here and we'll give it a moment to load in, and once it does, we'll have access to the designer for this project. So with the designer launcher, you can easily connect to designers across multiple gateways and very quickly create new projects for them or work in existing ones.
