(open in window)[00:00] Let's take a look at an example of connecting to a Siemens S7 device with absolute addressing. We'll start off in the Gateway, in the side navigation. We'll go to Connections, Devices, and Connections, then click the Create Device Connection button to see the list of installed drivers. If we scroll down, we have several drivers here -- one for each series of Siemens device. For this demo, I'm gonna be connecting to a 1200 series device, but the following steps would be the same regardless of which device type you use. Before we move on though, it's important to note that the 1200 and 1500 series devices require specific device-side configurations and considerations to work correctly with our drivers. For more information, please see the Siemens section of the Ignition User Manual, which I've linked below this video. Let's select the S7-1200 driver and click the next button. We need to name this connection, so I'll call this S7-1200.
[01:03] Under Connectivity, we need to specify a hostname. I'll paste in the IP address of my device. We also have Advanced Properties available if you'd like to adjust things like PDU size, customize the rack and slot numbers, or add timeout protection. I'm gonna leave these at the default settings, so I'll just click the Create Device Connection button. The status will start off as disconnected, but soon we have a connected status. The next step is to create some tags, but we'll take a look at how to do that in a later video.
