(open in window)[00:00] Once you've created some tags, you may want to restrict edit access, especially if you have some complex UDT's, you don't want just anyone coming in there and messing up your work. We can restrict edit access to the Tag Provider based on roles. The way you set this up is, you head over to the configure section or your gateway, and I am on the Tags Realtime page here. I'm going to put some edit restrictions on my default Tag Provider here. So I head over to the right and click the edit button. Then we'll scroll down a little bit here and you can see the Tag editing roles property. As the property description mentions if blank and there will be no edit restrictions in the designer. If someone has design access, they can edit the Tags in this Provider. But I'm going to paste in a role into this Tag edit roles here, so I add a role called TagEdit Default Provider. Now if a user has designer access, they'll also have to have this role, otherwise they can't edit the Tags. Note that this is just for editing the Tags. This has nothing to do with write access. If you want to restrict write access, checkout the Tag security video. Now this also means I can have a bunch of different roles, one for each of my Tag Providers if I did need to restrict access per Provider. Once you set the roles here all you need to do is click the save changes button at the bottom and that's it.
