[00:00] Much like installation on other operating systems, installing Ignition on macOS is a simple process, thanks to the straightforward Ignition installer tools. If you don't have the installer yet, you can head over to the inductiveautomation.com website and go to our downloads page. The website will automatically detect your operating system and give you the correct button to download the installer, or, if you prefer to use a different method, you can click on the other operating systems link and use one of the macOS installation zip files instead. Just like the installer, the generic zip file will allow you to install whichever edition of Ignition you want-- Maker, Edge, or Standard Ignition. Plus, the generic zip file has a handy README file that'll guide you through the process. An Edge-specific zip file is also available if you'd prefer to use that for installing an Edge instance. Already have the installer DMG downloaded, so we can control- click on the DMG, choose open, and the installer window will appear.

[01:08] From here we can control-click on the icon and select Open. Installation does require administrator privileges, so we'll need to enter the environment password to get the installation wizard to appear. I'll close the other window and hit next to begin walking through the installation steps. The first choice we need to make is the installation location. There is a suggested default path supplied here, but you can change that if you'd like to install Ignition in a different place on your machine. I'm gonna leave that existing path and hit next. Here we can select an installation type. There are two installation options, typical and custom. The typical option installs our most commonly used modules, providing a great set of specialized features. The custom option allows you to pick the specific modules you want. It also allows you to upload third-party modules during the installation.

[02:04] Since you can always add and remove modules later, we recommend sticking with the typical option. Now we're ready to begin the installation. I'll speed this part up for the sake of time. With that, we've reached the end of the Install Wizard steps, so let's take a look at these checkboxes. The "Start Ignition Now" checkbox will attempt to start Ignition once we click finish, which leads us into the commissioning process. The "Install Service" checkbox will mark Ignition as a service on the local operating system. I'm gonna leave both of these checked and click finish. Your browser should automatically launch and direct you to the second stage of installation -- System Commissioning. If the browser doesn't open automatically to localhost:8088, you can navigate there manually. You'll see three options-- Maker, Edge, and Standard Ignition. If you're not sure which edition to install, we recommend choosing Standard Ignition. Both Maker and Edge have extensive feature sets, but Standard Ignition is more comprehensive.

[03:05] If you're trying to work your way through Inductive University, Standard Ignition will give you the best experience, so let's select that option. The end user license agreement comes next. You can read through the agreement, accept the terms, and click next. Now, we'll need to create an initial user. This user account is how you'll access the Ignition installation and do things like start your first project. Let's put in some strong credentials that we'll remember. We can also add new users and even change the password for this user later if we want, so Ignition gives us plenty of flexibility. In this window, we can set up the HTTP configuration. Ignition uses many different ports for communication. Here, we can pick certain ports for those types of communications, or we can leave the default settings in place. Again, we can always change these after the installation process is complete, so I'm gonna keep these at the default values. We can click finish setup, and start the Gateway.

[04:06] I'll fast forward again to save some time. This is the Gateway's Web interface, the place where you can make high-level changes to your system. You have one more choice to make -- to use Quick Start or start from scratch. If you wanna explore the offerings in Inductive University, starting from scratch will give you the best foundation to build upon, but you can enable Quick Start instead, if you'd like to see a sample project that you can refer to. I'll choose Start From Scratch, and our Gateway is ready. You may wanna bookmark this page in your browser so you can easily return here later. Now that Ignition is running on your system, please take some time to check out our Designer Launcher video in Inductive University and familiarize yourself a bit with the Ignition User Manual. When you're ready, feel free to log in with your new credentials. Start setting up connections in the gateway and open up the designer to start building an application.
