[00:00] In this lesson we'll set up an EAM controller. Before we begin, you will need a database connection on the gateway that will become the controller so make sure you have that set up already. Also if this is a new Ignition installation, we highly recommend that you change the system name to something meaningful. This way when you start adding agents, you have multiple gateways you can look at, you can always check the top of the gateway webpages here to figure out which gateway you're looking at. And as a reminder, you can change the system name under the Configure section under System and Gateway Settings. With that out of the way, let's go ahead and set up this gateway as a controller. So I'm going to scroll down and look at the list on the far left side of this page here in the Configure section, and there's an Enterprise Administration section if you have the Enterprise Administration module installed. I'm going to click on the Setup link. And then over here we need to specify if this gateway I'm on is going to be an agent or a controller. So in this case I'm installing a controller. So I'll select the Controller radio button and click the Next button.

[01:04] Now here's where that database connection comes into play. The controller needs a database connection. We store information about the agents in a SQL database, and this is mandatory, we have to have a database connection to store this information. I'll go ahead and click on the little dropdown, and select the one database connection I currently have on my gateway. I'm going to scroll down just a little bit here and look at the Archiving section. The controller will also store additional files such as gateway backups and archived modules. If the Archive Location is set to Automatic, the controller will use its default path, but I could change this to manual and specify a path. Know that the Archive Path here is relative to the controller server. So if I just specify something in the C drive, that would be the controller server C drive. Now I'm going to use the Automatic location so I'm going to switch that back. We do have a low disk space threshold, so if we start running out of hard drive space, this gateway, the controller gateway will start generating error messages to let you know that we're running low on room.

[02:01] You could change what that threshold is if you wanted. I'm going to leave all the Archiving properties as their default values and click the Finish button. And you should find yourself on the Agent Management page. Now if we scroll back down in this Configure section of the gateway here, if we take a look back at the Enterprise Administration section, you should have a bunch of different links you can use now. We'll talk about most of these links in other videos, but for right now I do want to point out if you click back on the Controller Settings link, it takes you back to the pages where we selected the controller settings. So if you needed to change the database connection, change the threshold, all that fun stuff, you can do that over here. Very important, if you decide later on that this gateway here should no longer be a controller, there is an Uninstall Controller link you can click at the top.
