In this lesson, I'll demonstrate how to set up an SMS notification profile so that alarm notifications can be sent via text message. In order to do this, I'll need to navigate to the gateway webpages config page, and then scroll down to alarming and click notification. From here, I'll click Create New Alarm Notification Profile. Then I can select SMS notification from the list and click Next. A quick note about this option, there are a couple prerequisites that need to be met before SMS notifications can be used. The SMS notification module is what allows you to use this type of notification method, but this module is also dependent on the alarm notification module, so both modules will need to be installed in order to create this. Additionally, you'll need a cellular modem and an active cellular account to send the messages. Inductive Automation officially supports three AirLink devices, the RV50 or RV50X, the RV55, and the LX40. Most devices that support AirLink IP protocol can be used, but configuration settings may vary.

I'll include a link to our user manual page for SMS notification profiles that includes a link with information about AirLink devices, as well as the links to IA knowledge base articles with device setup guides. Alternatively, SMS notifications can also be sent using Twilio. However, this will require an account with Twilio as well as a special Twilio module installed on the gateway. I won't go over that module in this lesson, but I'll link to that user manual page as well. Back to creating the profile. I'll give the profile a name, and then the next thing I need to do is enter the AirLink host address, which is going to be the IP address of the cellular modem. I'll go ahead and paste the address to my device. The send port is what the device uses to send messages and is configured on the device itself. I'm gonna go ahead and leave the default of 17341. The receive port is what Ignition will use when two way messaging is enabled. I'll also leave this at the default of 17342.

The next property, if enabled, includes an alphanumeric code with a notification message. This allows users to reply with that code in order to acknowledge the alarm. Then the following property would change the code that's sent to users so that it's only a numeric code, not alphanumeric. Finally, the last property will associate this notification profile with an audit profile, and that way events such as SMS messages and acknowledgements will be stored to the audit system. Now that my selections are complete, I'll click the create button at the bottom of the page, and now I have a running SMS notification profile on my gateway.
