In this lesson, I'll show how to set up a connection to an Allen-Bradley PLC5 device. I'll start in the config section of the gateway webpage, and I'll scroll down to the OPC UA section and click on Device Connections. Next, I'll click create new device. Then I'll select the Allen-Bradley PLC5 from the list of drivers and click Next. I'll need to give this connection a name, so I'm gonna call mine PLC5. Then I need to provide the hostname or IP address of my device. This is all I really need to connect to my device, but I'll mention a couple other properties. The local address property allows you to specify an IP address that you'd like to connect to the device from. Leaving this blank allows the driver to select one for you automatically. If I was connecting to my PLC5 device through a ControlLogix gateway, I would need to enter a connection path. I'm not, so I'll leave it blank, but if you are, then your path will be unique to your setup. I'll include a link to our user manual page on Allen-Bradley Connection Paths for your reference. I'll also include a link to our page for this driver.

If you'd like to read more about each property or see the supported connection methods. Since I'm done configuring the connection, I'll click Create new device. The device will initiate a browse, and then once it's finished, I can navigate to the OPC quick client, expand my OPC server, expand the device, and start viewing my tags.
