[00:00] In this lesson, we'll show how to install and activate the Ignition Maker Edition. The Maker Edition is a free to use version of Ignition, which is great for learning Ignition on your own, or for creating personal use projects. To get started, we'll need to download the installer, so from the Inductive Automation homepage, click on Download Ignition, which takes us to the Downloads page. Then click the link for Other operating systems and versions. Here you will always find the install media for the latest Ignition version for all supported operating systems. One thing to note about Maker Edition is that it's installed from the same fileset as Standard Edition is. There's no special Maker installer, it's all the same Ignition. If you're new to Ignition, I'd suggest selecting the installer instead of the zip file options, it's just easier to use. We'll use the Windows installer, but the steps will be mostly the same for Linux or Mac platforms. I'll download this installer, then move it to my desktop. Before running the installer, a couple prerequisite steps. For all three operating systems, make sure you have the needed installation privileges, whatever it's called, root, elevated permissions, admin access, or anything else, make sure you have it, first. Then one specific difference on Linux, make sure the installer file is executable. If you need more details, check out the installation information in the User Manual or the other Installing Ignition videos here on Inductive University.

[01:31] Once we have our installer, just run it. We'll run it with admin permissions as noted, and we'll speed up the steps just a bit. Now we're in the installer wizard, and we will just accept the default options all the way through. The User Manual pages on installing Ignition have more info on what all the options represent. Finally, we're ready to install, and I'll speed this part up and wait for the installation to complete. Then we'll click Finish, which finishes the installation and starts the gateway.

[02:05] Next we find ourselves on the commissioning page. This is just a fork in the road where we get to specify which of these Ignition editions we want to install, and it will perform some additional setup needed. This step differs from our other installation videos in that here, we'll select the Maker Edition. We'll next get a reminder that this is only for personal use projects and we'll click Agree. Then we'll get to this license agreement. We'll agree with the terms and click Next. Next, in commissioning step 2, we'll be prompted for a License Key and an Activation Token. Both of these are free and require only that you have an internet connection and an Inductive Automation account. There's a link here which will take you to that login page, but there are also links on our website, and the needed URL is just account.inductiveautomation.com. I'm already logged into my user account in a separate tab, so we'll head over to the left side and select Maker Edition. Now we can generate a license by clicking on Get License.

[03:03] We'll accept another licensing agreement, and now we've got the needed License Key and Activation Token. The License Key is stored in our user account and can be reused to move to a different installation later. The Activation Token is not stored, but a new one can be regenerated as needed. So we will copy the License Key, head back over to our Activate License window and paste it. Then return to our account page where we will copy the Activation Token, and at this point we can close the license popup and see that our license has been stored. We'll return to the Activate License window, then paste the Activation Token and click Next. Now we're in step 3 of the commissioning, creating an initial user account. This user will have full admin and access privileges in Ignition, so make sure the credentials are something you can remember, though they can be changed later in the gateway. So we'll use admin as the username, and create a password, but do use a more secure password than this one.

[04:10] Then click Next. On this last step 4, we'll accept the default port settings. Then click Finish Setup to start the gateway, and we'll fast forward through this step. If you're new to Ignition, it's a good idea to enable the Quick Start, so we'll select Yes and we'll be prompted to log into our gateway one more time. So we'll enter the credentials we just created, and now we're up and running in our Ignition gateway. If this is your first Ignition installation, probably the first thing you'll want to do is to download and install the Designer, which will allow you to start browsing example projects and creating new ones. You can access the Designer installer from here in the gateway, or from the Quick Launch sidebar. You can also refer to a separate IU video on installing the Designer.

[05:04] Then you can have a look through some of these useful resources at the bottom: Inductive University, the Ignition Exchange, and various user forums, as well as the Quick Start Starter Project to help you begin exploring Ignition. Okay, now we've seen how to install the Maker Edition Gateway and get it licensed and running. Happy building with the Ignition Maker edition.
